Local Law 126
Parapet Observation
Local Law 126 creates an annual parapet observation requirement for buildings with parapets fronting the public right-of-way. The goal is to identify loose, deteriorated, or unsafe parapet conditions before debris or instability creates a public hazard.

Scope
This law applies to buildings with parapets that front a public street, avenue, sidewalk, roadway, or other public way, regardless of building height. The main exclusions are detached one- and two-family homes and buildings where a fence or other barrier prevents access to the exterior wall.

What the owner must do
The owner must arrange for an annual observation of the parapet, keep the written report, and address any unsafe condition immediately. If the observation identifies a hazard, the owner must install public protection right away and keep that protection in place until the condition is corrected.
